Monster Walk can turn treadmill walks into game progress because it reads steps from Apple Health on iPhone or Health Connect on Android, rather than GPS distance. Your treadmill steps need to reach that health service and Monster Walk needs permission to read them; a treadmill distance display alone does not confirm that steps have synced.
Before your first treadmill walk
- Set up step tracking using the official Monster Walk step tracking FAQ.
- On iPhone, allow Monster Walk to read Steps in Apple Health and allow Motion permissions. On Android, follow the FAQ to connect Google Fit and Health Connect and allow step access.
- Try a short walk with the device that normally records your steps. Check that steps appear in your health service, then return to Monster Walk.
The game does not need GPS or the camera. Keep your attention on walking; you can return to the adventure afterward.
What do your treadmill steps do in Monster Walk?
In Monster Walk, real-world steps clear fog, save monsters and unlock new regions. Monsters join your team and help you clear obstacles. If a fight is difficult, you can use steps to Chase monsters instead. The gameplay FAQ describes these systems.
Monster Walk is free to download and play, with optional in-game purchases. You never need to spend money to progress.
What if the treadmill shows a walk but the game does not?
Start with the step count in Apple Health or Health Connect. A treadmill can show distance even when your health service has not recorded steps. If steps are present there, check Monster Walk's read permissions using the step syncing guide.
If steps still do not appear in the game, open Settings → Support in Monster Walk to email the team with game logs attached. Include your phone model and which health service recorded the steps.
Sources and scope
This guide explains Monster Walk using its official gameplay and step tracking FAQ and game page. It does not promise compatibility with every treadmill or wearable; the relevant check is whether steps reach the health service the game reads.
FAQ
Does Monster Walk need treadmill GPS distance?
No. Monster Walk uses steps from Apple Health or Health Connect, rather than GPS distance.
Do I need to keep Monster Walk open while walking?
You do not need to be walking to play Monster Walk. It reads the steps recorded in your health service, so check that your walk is recorded and the game has read permission.
Will every treadmill or watch work?
A treadmill distance total is not enough to confirm compatibility. Check that steps from your recording device reach Apple Health or Health Connect, then check Monster Walk permissions.
